Biography

Elihu Vedder was born in New York City. In 1856, he moved to Italy and opened studios in New York and Italy. In 1863, he moved permanently to Italy. He was a painter and book illustrator. Some of his best known paintings include Lair of the Sea-Serpent, The Roc's Egg, Dominican Friars, An Italian Woman, which are all currently in the Boston museum of fine arts.
