Biography

She was a writer, English reformer, and mother of 3 sons. She is known for leaving her husband, George Chapple Norton, in 1836 and being denied in her attempts to divorce him. Her husband sued Lord Melbourne in retaliation, but the suit was thrown out in court. She was able to successfully assist in lobbying for the Custody of Infants Act 1839 and the Matrimonial Causes Act 1857 in England.
