Biography
John Wilson attended Magdalen College, Oxford "where he won the Newdigate Prize for poetry." By 1815, Wilson decided that poetry and writing were not sufficient sources of income, resulting in his admittance to the Bar. Unable to sever his love for writing, Wilson produced poetry and novels simultaneous to his career in law. Soon after his 1816 publication, Wilson contributed to Blackwood's Magazine, which allowed him to set aside his legal work and fully pursue professional writing.
