Biography

Founder of Chance Brothers Glass, Robert Lucas Chance began his profession by purchasing the British-Crown Glass Company. Chance's company produced "blown window glass," but Chance introduced a revolutionary idea to Britain in 1832, sheet-glass.  Sheet-glass revolutionized the glass making industry and was even used in the glazing process at Crystal Palace in 1851. Similar to Thomas Osler, Robert Lucas Chance's factory was visited by William Henry Seward on a European tour in 1859.
