Biography

"Bonaparte, Jerome, king of Westphalia, b. in Ajaccio, Corsica, 15 Nov., 1784; d. in Villegenis, near Paris, 24 June, 1860." Uncle of Napoleon III and youngest brother of Napoleon I. Fled to the US after the fall of Napoleon I, where he married Elizabeth Patterson, the daughter of a Baltimore merchant. Had an American child also named Jerome Bonaparte, who was not legitimized by either Napoleon. WHS encounters him multiple times in Paris, named in 18590727WHS_FMS1. He served in Napoleon III's government in a variety of positions, but remained politically close to the United States.
