Ambrosio José Gonzales

Biography
Ambrosio Jose Gonzales was the highest ranking cuban born militray officer on either side of the American Civil War. He held the rank of Colonel in the confederate army. His promotion to the rank of Brigadier General. (O-7) by the then president of confederate states, president Jefferson Davis. He was schooled in New York and joined the army as a volunteer staff member of Pierre Gustave Toutant-Beauregard whom he knew from school. He championed the cause of Cuban liberation through American military intervention but died before seeing that happening.
