Mentioned by William Henry Seward in an August 12, 1859 letter to his daughter Fanny sent from Rome, "I have eaten, tried to sleep, received Father Smith of the Propaganda, Cardinal Bedini and Dr Savoy professor and in the University of Rome- written these notes and so ends this third morning in Rome."
