Biography
Odo Russell was the son of Major-general Lord George William Russell and the nephew of Lord John Russell. In 1849, he was appointed "attache at the embassy at Vienna." In the early 1850s he worked in the London foreign office, as well as continued to serve at the Vienna as well as the Paris and Constantinople embassies. In 1857, he visited the United States with Lord Napier. From 1858 — 1870 he served as a diplomat in Rome. In 1868, he married Lady Emily Theresa Villiers, with whom he had six children. In the early 1870s he was sent to negotiate with Prussian government, and in 1871 he was appointed ambassador at Berlin. In 1881, he was given the title Baron Ampthill of Bedfordshire.
