Biography

Saint Bridget of Sweden is venerated within the Catholic church and known for her visions and devotion to the image of a crucified Christ. She was a medieval mystic who moved to and died in Rome. While there, a crucifix at the basilica St. Paul's Outside-the-Walls is said to have spoken to her. This instance is what William Henry Seward reports in his travel letter of August 16, 1859.
