Lucius Scipio was the son of Scipio Barbatus and continued the family tradition of being a Roman consul, a post he took in 257 B.C.E. He is known for having conquered Corsica and for constructing a temple to the Tempests upon his return. He is buried in the Tomb of the Scipios, which William Henry Seward visited while travelling through Italy. He writes of Lucius Scipio and others in the tomb in his letter of August 16, 1859.
