Biography
Commonly known as Sir Francis Bacon, the Viscount of Saint Alban was a statesman, lawyer and philosopher. He held office as the Lord Chancellor of England from 1618-1621. He is well-known today for promoting the scientific method. His studies were completed at Cambridge University, and it is his connection with Cambridge that prompts William Henry Seward to reference him in his June 17, 1859 letter. Seward writes of Bacon as one of the distinguished graduates of Trinity College.
