Biography

Melchior de Hondecoeter was a painter of the Dutch Baroque style and is known for his studies of birds. William Henry Seward references him in his November 30, 1859 letter as one of the artists whose work he enjoyed at the museum in Amsterdam he visited with the Napiers.
