Townsend Sharpless was first married to Mary B. Jones. Lydia Jones Hunn nee Sharpless was one of their eight children. After Mary's death he and Elizabeth Jolliffe married in 1859. Lydia Hunn's family, including her father and step-mother, was part of the Seward family's social circle. Fanny Adeline Seward references the Hunns and Mr. Sharpless in her diary of 1862-1863.
