He worked as an iron manufacturer in Millville, NJ before marrying Mary Sharpless Hunn at the Twelfth Street Meeting of Friends in Philadelphia. It seems that Fanny Adeline Seward notes his presence at tea before he and his wife were married in her 1862-1863 diary.
