Biography

James William Paul, Sr. lived in Philadelphia as a prominent lawyer and part of the Seward family's social circle. He married Hannah Clement Bunker, with whom he had six children. Hannah as the sister of John A. Dahlgren's late wife Mary Clement Bunker, who died in 1855. The Pauls' last daughter Mary Dahlgren Paul, born after Mary Dahlgren's death in 1858, was likely named for her.
