Biography

Julius Stahel immigrated the United States from Hungary and subsequently served as a general in the Union Army. He received a Congressional Medal of Honor for his service in the Battle of Piedmont. He resigned as a Major General in 1865, at which point he began 20 years of service in Japan and China as part of the US Consular Service.
