Mary Eliza Adsit became Mrs. Cowan, wife of Andrew J. Cowan shortly after Fanny Adeline Seward mentions her in her 1862-1863 diary. Fanny identifies Andrew Cowan as Mary's affiance when she says he was taken prisoner at Williamsburg.
