Biography

Alexander Keene Phillips was a wealthy businessman from Fredericksburg, VA. There, he had a manor house built, but it was taken over by Union forces shortly after construction was completed. Shortly after that, it was destroyed by fire. Fanny Adeline Seward visited the brick ruins, which she describes in her 1862-1863 diary.
