Isabelle M. James married Allan Abbot Brinsmade on April 16, 1861 in New Orleans. They divorced in March 1863 in Indiana. Isabelle was the subject of a trial in 1862 for suspected espionage for the Confederacy that was highly-publicized in New York newspapers. Fanny Seward references her in her 1862-1863 diary as the subject of a conversation with Gen. Butler.
