Michigan native. Married Elijah Dewey in 1867. Attended Auburn's Young Ladies Institute. Fanny Seward references her in her 1862-1863 diary as accompanying her mother to pick up her sister Mary "Mollie" Hosmer from Auburn.  In 1864, Sarah graduates from the Young Ladies Institute as reported in a letter written by Fanny Seward to her father, William Henry Seward, dated June 27, 1864.
