Biography
Son of Commodore Charles Wilkes. According to Commodore Wilkes autobiography, Edmund was entirely unsuited to business and continually ran up debts and overextended himself. Eventually moved to Utah with his wife, Elizabeth Van Buren Wilkes, where he appears to have had several business interests including a silver mine and iron foundry.
