Attorney General of Delaware (c.1850), elected to the US Senate in 1859. Pro-slavery, but also pro-unionist Democrat. Fanny recalls an "amusing account" of an intoxicated Sen. Saulsbury in the Senate in her 1862-1863 diary. Sen. Saulsbury was removed from the Senate floor by the Sergeant At Arms.
