Nephew of Trumbull Cary, attended first Republican National Convention in 1856. Mentioned in a letter from Margaret Cary to Frances Seward, March 10, 1856, "Mr Cary was appointed a delegate to the republican convention at Pittsburgh and thought of going and visiting you for a few days at Washington but I felt that I could not leave the children and he gave it up and his nephew J H Kimberly went in his place." Homer was the son of Trumbull Cary's sister, Lucinda, who was about 20 years older than Trumbull.
