Attended U.S. Military Academy (class of 1853), officer in American Civil War with the Connecticut Infantry. Gained the rank of Brevet Major-General after the war for his outstanding service. Referenced in Fanny Seward's 1862-1863 diary in connection with Ernest Lord Kinney who served as his aide-de-camp.
