Son of George William Pitt Bissell and Mary Loughborough Bissell Keyes. After his father's death in 1861, Bissell was raised by his mother and stepfather Erasmus Darwin Keyes. Died prematurely of a brain abscess at the age of 19. Fanny Seward mentions seeing him as a small boy in her 1862-1863 diary.
