Biography

Louisa was the daughter of Lewis C. (a Congressman) and Julia A. M. Levin. She was from Philadelphia originally. In 1862, after her father's death in 1860, she married a Brazilian diplomat Benjamin Franklin Torreao de Barros. They had three children: Charles, Leonardo, and Bernardo. In 1900, she is listed as a widow and is living with her son Leonardo's family in Manhattan; in 1905, she is listed as living with all three of her sons in Manhattan; in 1910, she is living with just Bernardo, whose father's birthplace is listed as Brazil. She is buried with her parents and an unnamed child who died in 1900 at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia.
