Throughout his career, David F. Gedney worked as an attorney and as a jurist. In 1856, Gedney was appointed the District Attorney of Orange County, NY, and served in this position for two terms. Following, Judge Gedney served as the County Judge. In Goshen, NY, Gedney also headed a successful law firm. In 1875, Gedney's son Herbert became a partner in the firm, D. F. & H. Gedney. Gedney was married to Harriet Duer & had three children.
