Biography

Born in Connecticut, Lewis Bartholomew Woodruff followed his father's footsteps in becoming a judge. In 1835, he married Harriet Burnet Hornblower, the daughter of New Jersey Chief Justice Joseph Coerten Hornblower, and they had three children together. He spent most of his professional life in New York as he was appointed to become a federal judge by President Ulysses S. Grant. He was mentioned by CAS in his letter 18711101CAS_WHS1v1 that he will "hear the Jones case".
