Biography
Born in England. Founder of the Detroit Tribune and Detroit Postmaster (1866). In 1855, he was clerk of the Michigan House of Representatives. Formed a regiment of African-American soldiers in 1862 during the American Civil War. Frances "Fanny" references meeting him and one of his daughters in her 1860 diary during their visit to Detroit, Michigan.
