Born in West Hartford, CT. Phrenologist who entered into practice with Lorenzo Niles and Orson Squire Fowler in New York City.  Published several works on phrenology, as well as the first edition of Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass. Frances "Fanny" Seward references the New York firm of Fowler and Wells in her 1860 pocket diary.
