Antoine d'Orléans was the youngest son born to the King and Queen of France, Louis Philippe and Maria Amelia Teresa. Antoine's title was the Duke of Montpensier. In 1846, Antoine married Maria Luisa Fernanda, the daughter of the King of Spain, Ferdinand VII. Antoine resided in Spain after the French Revolution of 1848. The Duke of Montpensier is referenced in a letter exchanged between Lazette Maria Worden and Augustus Henry Seward on March 28, 1869, "The papers of the 27th have advices from Spain saying the Duke of Montpensier will be proclaimed king in a fortnight." Although Antoine was in the running for the Spanish thrown, he was not crowned the King of Spain.
