George M. Robeson was a lawyer from New Jersey who served as the Secretary of the Navy from 1869-1877 under President Ulysses S. Grant, and as a U. S. Congressman from New Jersey from 1879-1883. He was also the nephew of Congressman John P. B. Maxwell.
