Biography

Franklin Buchanan was a Captain in the United States Navy, and later in the Confederate States Navy. He resigned from the U.S. Navy following the start of the Civil War, believing that his native Maryland would secede. He served in the Confederate Navy first as a Captain and then as an Admiral. He died in Maryland in 1874.
