Bianca Mary Light

Biography
Bianca Mary Light was the titular daughter of Col. William Light and Mary (Bennet) Light. Bianca's parents were married in 1824, but separated by 1832 over claims of infidelity. Bianca and her siblings (Albert Charles Hugo Light and Hugo Shelley Light) were suspected to be illegitimate children produced outside their marriage. Bianca was born in Florence, Italy, and served as a nurse during the Franco-German War, which she documented in a book, entitled Under the Red Cross (1871) under the pseudonym "Vera". In 1873, she penned another book, entitled Our American Cousins At Home, which chronicled her travels through the United States. In this later book, Bianca recounted a visit with William H. Seward at his home in Auburn, New York.
