Biography

James D. Davey was born in Orange County, NY in approximately 1813. He and his wife Catharine had several children and moved from Orange County to Thompkins County sometime between 1843 and 1848. They eventually moved to Schuyler County, NY, where James is buried. 



 



According to census records from the mid-1800s, James was a farmer. It is possible that he is the previous owner of the "Davey house and lot" that was purchased by Samuel Sweezey Seward, and sold during his will reconciliation. Since James Davey and his family moved to Thompkins County while SSS was still alive, it is possible that they sold their land to him before moving, and it became part of his estate after his death.
