Israel Putnam

Biography
Israel Putnam was born in Massachusetts, but moved to Connecticut in 1740. He distinguished himself in his military service during the Seven Years War. After the war, he was elected to the Connecticut General Assembly, participated in the Sons of Liberty, and maintained a farm. At the start of the war, he was said to have "abandoned the plough" and joined the revolutionary cause. He served as a Second Brigadier for the Connecticut forces and was celebrated for his actions at the Battle of Bunker Hill. Putnam suffered a stroke in 1779 and died in Connecticut in 1790.
