Alanson Robinson was a successful businessman from Buffalo. He was related to the Perry family of Auburn, and his daughter, Mary, spent time with Fanny Seward during the summer of 1859. Alanson and his wife Zillah had two children, Mary and Coleman, and eventually moved from Buffalo to New York City, where Alanson died in 1870.

In Fanny Seward's 1858-1859 diary, she describes visiting the Robinson household in Buffalo and described them as "very kind and hospitable people."
