Henry J. Doolittle was the son of James Rood Doolittle and Mary Lovinia Cutting Doolittle. He graduated from Harvard in 1861 and contracted typhoid fever while serving in the American Civil War. Frances "Fanny" Seward references seeing Mr. Doolittle and his son while in Washington, D.C. in her 1858-1859 diary. Henry J. may be the son she is referring to.
