Biography
William Van Sackett was the Father of Judge Gary Van Sackett, a close friend of William Henry Seward. Most notably, William Van Sackett enlisted in the 5th Connecticut Regiment during the American Revolution, a shift from his life's work as a farmer in Connecticut. After the revolution and the birth of his children, his family became interested in the settlement of what is now Seneca Falls, New York, which prompted the continued residence of his family's future generations. He is mentioned in a letter between Gary Van Sackett and Frances Miller Seward in 1857 concerning the statute of limitations on Revolutionary pensions which William Henry Seward gave commentary on during a speech he had given.
