Born in Hartford, Connecticut, James Huntington first moved to Dundee, NY to be a Whig farmer, before becoming a Senator in the New York State Senate 25th district from 1856-1857. He is mentioned in a letter between Gary Van Sackett and Frances Miller Seward in 1857 concerning the employment of Van Sackett's son, David Van Sackett, wherein Huntington is mentioned as a trusted reference.
