    Birth: 6-6-1815

    Death: 5-30-1905

Biography

Mary Manning was the wife of New York Scientist and businessman William RH Manning. Although she was born in New Hampshire, Mary Manning spent most of her life in Brooklyn, where her and her husband had frequent long term guests related either to their guest's misfortune, or the intellectual companionship of her husband. Most notably however was the guest Emilia Kossuth Zulavsky, who remained in their house during the Hungarian Civil war era of the mid 19th century, where her and her family were exiled to New York. The Seward family aided Zulavsky during the time of her exile, which prompted Manning's letter to Frances Miller Seward in 1860.
