Biography

Edward Forester was a seaman who first met famed Chinese mercenary Frederick Townsend Ward in Nicaragua. The two men reunited in China serving for the Chinese Imperial Army during the Taiping Rebellion. George Frederick Seward references him in a letter to his uncle William H. Seward, then Secretary of State, dated March 07, 1863. Forester published an account of his involvement in the Taiping Rebellion in Vol. 21 of Cosmopolitan Magazine (1896).
