Biography

Born in Orange County, Virginia in 1811 and entered the Navy at the age of 16. He served as an executive officer during the Mexican War. Also served during the Civil War, commanding the USS Richmond. Following the Civil War, Jenkins served as Chief Board of Navigation and Secretary of the Light-House Board until 1871.
