F. P. Markham worked in the United States Department of State, at the end of his life serving abroad as the Commercial Agent of Samana in the Dominican Republic. He is possibly the clerk who is referred to in Benjamin Sanford's letter to Frances Miller Seward on Septermber 21, 1861.

Citation Notes: 
There are several Markhams, including an F. P. Markham from a North Carolina family. I cannot identify whether this is the same family, but I'm inclined to say that it is not.
