Biography

Madison Conyers Johnson was a Lexington, Kentucky banker, attorney, and administrator. He served as the President of the Northern Bank of Kentucky from 1858-1878. Henry Onderdonk Chesebro references him in a letter to William H. Seward, dated March 30, 1864, on behalf of Elizabeth Vertner as a reference to her loyalty to the Union and her petition to the U.S. Government for redress in damages to her Lexington home that was occupied by Union forces during the American Civil War.
