Biography

Anne Whiteside Birdsall was the first wife of New York politician John Charles Birdsall. The couple had two sons before her premature death in 1833. In a letter written by Albert H. Tracey to William H. Seward, dated May 17, 1833, Tracey discusses her death and the hardship it brings her husband. His language suggests she may have died of consumption, or tuberculosis.
