Biography

Arabella Ross was a dressmaker who lived and worked in Washington, DC during the 1860s. She was listed in the 1860 Boyd's Directory of Washington, DC, as being a "colored" woman. The Seward women reference visiting her several times in letters and diary entries produced during the 1860s. In a letter written by Frances "Fanny" Seward to her aunt, Lazette Miller Worden, dated March 14, 1863, she references Mrs. Ross making her "some spring and summer dresses."
