Biography
Mary Hurlburt (Matteson) Pomeroy was born in Utica, New York, the daughter of Orasmus Benajah Matteson, a member of Congress, and Mary Augusta Hurlburt. On December 24, 1862, she married George Allen Pomeroy of Utica, New York, who served as Paymaster of the U.S. Army during the American Civil War. Frances "Fanny" Seward references a social visit by Mrs. G Pomeroy at the Seward's Washington home in her 1866 diary.
