Katie Tappan Logan was the daughter of Dorastus and Catherine Logan of Morris County, NJ. Dorastus was killed in the Battle of Gettysburg, leaving Catherine to raise Katie and her sister alone.

Katie died in September 1877, while a student at Cornell University. She was to have graduated in the Class of 1879. It is not clear if she died at Cornell, or at home in New Jersey.
