Biography
Arthur Cleveland Coxe was born in Mendham, New Jersey, the son of Rev. Samuel Cox. He attended the City University of New York and the General Theological Seminary. He was rector of St. John's Church in Hartford, Connecticut, from 1843-1854 and of Grace Church in Baltimore from 1854-1863. In 1863, Coxe became the Assistant Bishop and in 1865 the Bishop of Western New York. Coxe was a prolific author, writing books of poetry, including Athwold (1838) and Christian Ballads (1840), as well as prose, Apology for the English Bible (1854) and Sermons on Doctrine and Duty (1855).
